Dates: September 25-29, 2017

Curriculum Information for the Week:
Literacy: Students are beginning to write their literary essays on claims and themes in the books they have read in book clubs. We will modelling the process using our read aloud, “Home of the Brave.”

Math:  Adding and Subtracting Fractions continues this week as we move into operations with unlike denominators.  Students will develop conceptual understanding using manipulatives and models to show their thinking.  In addition to the current unit, students are doing on-going review of the topics from Unit 1 and learning from Grade 4.

Unit of Study:  Students will look into the role of citizens in a community and how they can impact society. Social Changemakers will come this week on Tuesday and Wednesday (10:30-1:00). The students will listen to all 12 speakers and hopefully will be inspired to make changes in our own community. Of course all parents are welcome to attend this conference and learn along with your children.
