Newsletter March 12

Weekly Newsletter Grade 5
Dates: March 12-16

Dear Parents,

Curriculum Information for this Week:

Literacy: We will be taking the Fantasy Writing Assessment this week. We are hoping the students remember all that we have covered in this unit and include some wonderful FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE, GREAT BEGINNINGS, INSPIRING DIALOGUE, LOTS OF FANTASY ELEMENTS, and an ENDING THAT WILL HAVE US WANTING MORE!

Math: The students continue working on Unit 5: Multiplying & Dividing Fractions. The focus continues to be on conceptual understanding of these skills using a variety of manipulatives and also drawing models to show their thinking. The assessment will be at the end of this week.

Unit of Study: We are beginning our unit on Social Change. This will be a long unit ending with the famous “Night of the Notables” in May. This week we will begin reading social change books.  We will also tune in to the ‘Human Rights’ UDHR and their connection to the Global Goals.

For more information and ways to support your child please visit the Parent Learning Connection page.

Important Reminders/Information: (also see GLC Updates)
Fri. 16 Mar: G3-5 Track ‘n’ Field Day, 8:15-11:00

Highlight last week:
The Student-Led-Conferences were a big success. The students enjoyed “showing off” their work and the teachers enjoyed seeing the proud faces of parents as they learned a lot about the human body, read some amazing writing, and learned new FRESH ways to solve multiplication and division fractions problems!
